Exosomes represent the most advanced frontier in non-invasive skin regeneration. By harnessing the body’s own cellular communication system, they stimulate repair, renewal, and collagen production at a biological level that no surface treatment can reach.

What Are Exosomes?

Exosomes are nano-sized extracellular vesicles — tiny particles naturally produced and released by cells as a means of communicating with one another. They carry a rich cargo of bioactive molecules including growth factors, peptides, microRNAs, coenzymes, minerals, amino acids, and vitamins, which instruct recipient cells to initiate repair, regulate inflammation, and produce structural proteins including collagen and elastin.

In clinical skin treatment, medical-grade exosomes derived from highly purified stem cell sources are applied to the skin — most effectively following microneedling or a gentle procedure that opens micro-channels in the skin surface, allowing the vesicles to penetrate to the depth where they can act on living skin cells. The result is a biological reset: the skin begins to function as younger, healthier skin.

“Exosomes do not simply deliver ingredients to the skin — they deliver instructions. They tell the skin to repair itself, produce collagen, reduce inflammation, and regulate melanin. That is a fundamentally different mechanism from any topical treatment or injectable product.”PHP Aesthetic-Wellness, 22 Harley Street

What Can Exosomes Treat?

Exosome therapy is effective across a broad range of skin concerns, making it one of the most versatile regenerative treatments available. Its anti-inflammatory, melanin-regulating, and collagen-stimulating mechanisms address several skin conditions simultaneously.

Skin Ageing
Exosomes stimulate fibroblast activity and collagen remodelling, reducing fine lines, improving skin elasticity, and restoring the structural integrity that declines with age. Results are progressive and cumulative over six to twelve weeks following treatment.
Pigmentation & Uneven Tone
By regulating melanocyte signalling, exosomes reduce the overproduction of melanin that causes sun spots, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and uneven complexion — without the irritancy risk of chemical agents.
Rosacea & Redness
The potent anti-inflammatory action of exosomes calms the chronic immune activation driving rosacea and reactive skin, reducing vascular reactivity and improving barrier function progressively over a treatment course.
Acne Scarring
Exosomes accelerate tissue remodelling in post-acne scarring, stimulating new collagen deposition and improving the texture and depth of atrophic scars when combined with microneedling.
Sun Damage
Cumulative UV damage is addressed at a cellular level — exosomes support the repair of DNA-damaged keratinocytes, restore skin clarity, and improve the overall quality and resilience of chronically sun-exposed skin.
Hair Loss
Applied to the scalp following microneedling, exosomes stimulate follicular stem cells, extend the anagen (growth) phase, and modulate the inflammatory environment around the follicle. An emerging and promising adjunct to PRP in hair restoration protocols.

Benefits of Exosome Treatment

Stimulates collagen and elastin production for lasting structural improvement
Regulates melanin synthesis — reduces pigmentation and uneven tone
Potent anti-inflammatory action — calms rosacea, reactive skin, and post-procedure inflammation
Accelerates wound healing and tissue repair following microneedling or laser
Supports natural skin cell regeneration and renewal
No downtime — minimal to no post-treatment reaction
Safe for all skin tones including Fitzpatrick types IV–VI
Non-invasive when applied topically; no systemic absorption

Treatment Protocol

At PHP Aesthetic-Wellness, exosomes are most commonly applied immediately following a microneedling session, maximising penetration depth and the regenerative response. They can also be applied following a chemical peel or LED session where microneedling is not indicated.

🧲

Combined with Microneedling

The most effective delivery method. Micro-channels created by the needles allow exosomes to penetrate to the depth of the living dermis, where they act directly on fibroblasts and keratinocytes. The regenerative response is significantly amplified compared to topical application alone.

Combined with LED or Peel

Where microneedling is not appropriate — active rosacea, very sensitive skin, or reactive conditions — exosomes are applied following LED therapy or a gentle peel to support barrier repair and amplify the anti-inflammatory benefit of the primary treatment.

Results timeline. Exosome therapy produces progressive results over six to twelve weeks following each session as the stimulated biological response matures. Most patients notice initial improvement in skin quality and radiance within two to three weeks; full results of the treatment course are assessed at twelve weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are exosomes safe?
Medical-grade exosomes used at PHP Aesthetic-Wellness are derived from highly purified stem cell sources and undergo stringent quality control. They carry no risk of rejection or allergic reaction and have an excellent safety profile across all skin types. Side effects are rare and typically limited to mild transient redness at the treatment site.
How are exosomes different from PRP?
PRP uses growth factors from the patient’s own blood to stimulate tissue repair. Exosomes carry a far more complex and targeted cargo — including microRNAs and genetic signalling molecules — that direct cellular behaviour at a deeper biological level. Many patients use both in combination for complementary regenerative benefit.
How many sessions will I need?
Most patients complete an initial course of three to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Skin ageing, pigmentation, and rosacea typically respond well within this timeframe. Hair loss protocols may require additional sessions. Dr Philippe or Dr Jihyun Byun will recommend the appropriate course at your consultation.
Is there any downtime?
When exosomes are applied following microneedling, patients can expect 48–72 hours of redness and mild sensitivity — this is the microneedling recovery rather than a reaction to the exosomes themselves. When applied following LED or a gentle peel, downtime is minimal to none.
Can exosomes be used on darker skin tones?
Yes — exosomes carry no risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation and are fully appropriate for Fitzpatrick types I–VI. Their melanin-regulating properties make them particularly valuable in darker skin tones where pigmentation concerns are more pronounced and where other treatments carry higher irritancy risk.
