Call us now if any of these happen
Do not wait to see whether it improves. At any hour.
- Severe pain, or pain that is worsening rather than easing
- Skin going white, grey, blue, or mottled like lace
- Anything wrong with your vision, or pain in or behind the eye
- Redness spreading, heat, or a fever
- Drooping eyelid, trouble swallowing or breathing
- Swollen lips, tongue or throat, a rash, or feeling faint
If you cannot reach us and it is serious: breathing difficulty, throat swelling or collapse — call 999. Sudden vision loss or eye pain — go straight to eye casualty; Moorfields Eye Hospital is open 24 hours. Anything else urgent — call 111. Tell them exactly what was injected and when, then call us as soon as you can.

This is expected, and settles
- Pinpoint marks or small bruises where the needle went in
- Swelling for two to three days — lips look fuller now than they will
- Tenderness, or filler feeling firm, easing over one to two weeks
- A mild headache after toxin, usually gone in a day
- Slight unevenness in the first fortnight, before it settles
None of this needs treating. If it is worrying you anyway, ring us — we would much rather reassure you than have you spend a weekend anxious.
Notes by treatment
Botulinum toxin. Upright four hours, no rubbing. It starts working at two to three days and finishes at around fourteen. Please do not judge the result before your two-week review.
Dermal filler. Swelling peaks at 24 to 48 hours, most of all in lips. Do not massage unless we asked you to. Bruising clears within a week. Result is judged at two weeks.
Skin boosters, polynucleotides, mesotherapy, PRP. Small bumps at the injection points are normal and gone within a day. No makeup or heat for the rest of the day.
Peels and microneedling. Redness like mild sunburn for a day or two, then light flaking. Only the products we recommended, and high-factor sunscreen daily — sun protection affects your result more than anything else you do.
PDO threads. Tightness on movement for one to two weeks. Sleep on your back, no wide mouth opening or dental work for two weeks, no facial massage for a month.
Your two-week review
Every injectable treatment includes a review at around two weeks. It is part of what you have paid for and, in our view, not optional — it is when the result is properly assessed and refined. If you have not been given a date, contact us and we will arrange it.
