What Is Mesotherapy?

Developed in France in the 1950s, mesotherapy is one of the most established injectable treatments in aesthetic medicine. A series of superficial microinjections delivers a bespoke blend of active ingredients — including vitamins B, C, and E, hyaluronic acid, amino acids, minerals, and plant extracts — directly into the mesoderm (middle layer of the skin), where topical products, however sophisticated, cannot penetrate.

A series of superficial microinjections across the face, neck, or décolleté. Topical anaesthetic cream applied 30 minutes before treatment ensures comfort. A mild flushing and pin-mark redness is normal and settles within a few hours.

A note on mesotherapy for darker skin tones. Brightening mesotherapy formulas — particularly those containing vitamin C and glutathione — are safe and effective across all Fitzpatrick types. Formulas are adapted for each patient. Dr Hamida-Pisal and Dr Jihyun Byun have specific expertise in treating medium-to-deep skin tones and will select the most appropriate protocol for your complexion.

Is mesotherapy painful?
Most patients find mesotherapy well tolerated. The injections are superficial and performed with very fine needles. A topical anaesthetic cream is applied 30 minutes before treatment to minimise discomfort. A mild stinging sensation during injection is normal and brief.
How soon will I see results?
Many patients notice improved hydration and luminosity within 24–48 hours of their first session. Pigmentation, hair loss, and body applications respond more gradually — significant results typically become apparent after three to four sessions, with the full benefit of a course visible at six to eight weeks.
How is mesotherapy different from skin boosters?
Skin boosters deliver a single active ingredient — hyaluronic acid — at a deeper dermal level for lasting hydration. Mesotherapy delivers a cocktail of multiple active ingredients at a more superficial level, targeting a wider range of skin concerns simultaneously. The two are frequently combined for complementary results.
Can mesotherapy be used for hair loss?
Yes — scalp mesotherapy is a well-established and effective treatment for androgenetic alopecia, female pattern hair loss, and telogen effluvium. It delivers DHT-inhibiting agents, follicle-stimulating vitamins, and circulation-enhancing compounds directly to the scalp dermis, bypassing the barrier that prevents topical products from reaching the follicle effectively.
Are there any contraindications?
Mesotherapy is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or in patients with active skin infection at the treatment site. Those with a known allergy to any component of the formula should discuss this at consultation. Patients on blood-thinning medications should inform the clinic as this may increase bruising.
