If you wake up with a tight, aching jaw, suffer from headaches that start at your temples, or have noticed your jawline looking wider or more square over time, you may be dealing with bruxism — chronic teeth grinding or clenching, often without realising it.

How Grinding Changes the Jawline

Bruxism causes the masseter muscle — the main chewing muscle, at the back of the jaw — to enlarge through overuse, much like any muscle that is exercised repeatedly. The result is a jawline that appears wider or bulkier than your natural bone structure, alongside symptoms that are often dismissed as unrelated: jaw soreness, headaches, tooth wear, and a tight or clicking jaw joint.

Botox injected into the masseter addresses both sides of this. As the muscle gradually relaxes and reduces in size, the jawline softens into a more oval, refined shape, while reduced clenching force can ease jaw tension, grinding, and the associated headaches that many men live with for years without connecting to their jaw at all.

“Most men who come to us about their jawline have no idea the headaches and the jaw soreness are connected to the same cause. Treating the muscle addresses both the appearance and the symptoms most patients had stopped expecting any treatment could touch.”Dr Philippe Hamida-Pisal, PHP Aesthetic-Wellness

Signs You May Be Grinding

Waking up with a tight, sore, or aching jaw
Headaches that begin at the temples, particularly in the morning
A jawline that has gradually appeared wider or more square over time
Tooth wear, sensitivity, or a dentist flagging signs of grinding
Clicking, tightness, or discomfort in the jaw joint itself
A partner mentioning that you grind your teeth at night

What Masseter Botox Addresses

👋

The Cosmetic Result

As the masseter relaxes and reduces in bulk, the jawline gradually softens from a wide, square shape into a more oval, refined contour — without surgery and without affecting the underlying bone structure, which remains untouched.

🫔

The Functional Result

Reduced clenching force from the masseter often eases jaw tension, grinding intensity, and the headaches that frequently accompany bruxism — typically the first improvement patients notice, ahead of any visible change.

A consultation is essential first. Jawline width can come from the masseter muscle, the underlying jawbone, or both. We assess which factors are contributing to your specific jawline shape before recommending treatment, since this approach addresses the muscular component specifically. If bone structure is the primary factor, a different approach may be more appropriate, and we will discuss this honestly.

What to Expect

01
Weeks 1–2
Functional symptoms — jaw tension, clenching, headaches — often begin to ease first, ahead of any visible cosmetic change.
02
Weeks 4–6
The slimming effect typically becomes visible as the masseter muscle gradually reduces in size.
03
Weeks 8–12
The fullest cosmetic effect is reached, with the jawline settled into its final, more refined contour.

Repeat treatment is usually needed every 4–6 months to maintain both the slimming effect and symptom relief. Some patients find that with repeated treatment over time, the muscle remains smaller even between sessions.

Discreet & Confidential

Your Privacy, Respected

Many men come to this treatment for the headaches and jaw discomfort alone and are surprised to learn there is a cosmetic benefit too — others come purely for the jawline. Either reason is entirely valid, and every consultation at PHP Aesthetic-Wellness is handled with the same discretion and confidentiality as all of our men’s services.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the same as Botox for wrinkles?
It is the same product (Botox®/botulinum toxin), used differently. Rather than targeting the small muscles that cause expression lines, this treatment targets the larger chewing muscle at the jaw — addressing both muscle bulk (appearance) and excessive muscle activity (grinding and clenching).
Will it affect my ability to chew or eat?
At the correct, carefully assessed dose, normal chewing function is preserved. The treatment reduces excessive muscle activity and bulk, not normal day-to-day function. This is why a thorough consultation and assessment is essential before treatment — dosing is tailored to the individual.
How long until I see results?
Functional symptoms — jaw tightness, clenching, headaches — often begin to ease within the first one to two weeks. The cosmetic slimming effect is more gradual, as the muscle reduces in size over several weeks; most patients see visible jawline changes from around 4–6 weeks, with full results by around 8–12 weeks.
Is it suitable for everyone with a wide jawline?
Not necessarily — jawline width can come from the masseter muscle, the underlying jawbone, or both. During your consultation, we will assess which factors are contributing to your jawline shape, since this treatment addresses the muscular component specifically. If bone structure is the primary factor, a different approach may be more appropriate, and we will discuss this honestly.
Is there any downtime?
There is no significant downtime. Some mild tenderness in the jaw area for a day or two is possible, but most patients return to normal activities immediately.
How often do I need treatment?
Most patients require repeat treatment every 4–6 months to maintain both the symptom relief and the slimmer jawline appearance. Some patients find that with repeated treatment over time, the muscle remains smaller even between sessions.
Can this help with TMJ (jaw joint) pain?
Many patients with bruxism-related jaw tension also experience discomfort in the jaw joint itself (TMJ). By reducing the clenching force from the masseter, this treatment can contribute to easing TMJ-related discomfort, though a broader assessment may be recommended if TMJ pain is a primary concern.
How is this different from jawline filler?
These address opposite concerns. Masseter Botox softens and narrows a jawline that appears wide or bulky due to an enlarged chewing muscle, often related to teeth grinding. Jawline filler adds definition and structure to a jawline that is soft, recessed, or lacks angularity. Some men benefit from an assessment of both, since muscle bulk and bone structure can both be contributing factors to the overall shape of the jaw.
