Hyaluronic acid filler is designed to be reversible — that reversibility is one of its genuine safety advantages over other treatments, and Hyalase is the medicine that makes it possible. Whether correcting a result, addressing a complication, or simply changing your mind, dissolving filler safely is a precise medical procedure in its own right.

What Hyalase Is

Hyalase is the brand name for hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid — the substance the majority of modern dermal fillers are made from. When injected into or around an area of filler, it dissolves the product, allowing the body to clear it naturally over the following days.

It is a prescription-only medicine, and at PHP Aesthetic-Wellness it is administered only following a full medical assessment by Dr Philippe Hamida-Pisal or Dr Jihyun Byun. Hyalase only dissolves hyaluronic acid products — it has no effect on other filler types, such as calcium hydroxylapatite or poly-L-lactic acid, or on your body's own natural tissue.

When Hyalase Is Used

A previous filler result that no longer suits your face, or simply isn't what you wanted
Asymmetry, lumping, or migration of filler from its original treatment area
Overfilled or excessive volume, including from treatment carried out elsewhere
A change in facial shape over time that filler is no longer complementing
Preparing an area for a fresh, corrective treatment plan

Hyalase as a Safety Treatment

Beyond correction and preference, Hyalase has a critical clinical role: it is the emergency treatment for vascular occlusion, a rare but serious filler complication where filler inadvertently compromises blood flow to the surrounding tissue. Recognising this complication quickly, and having immediate access to Hyalase, is a fundamental part of safe injectable practice.

If you have had filler anywhere — at this clinic or elsewhere — and are experiencing severe, worsening pain, unusual blanching or mottling of the skin, or skin that is turning dusky, purple, or noticeably colder than the surrounding area, this requires urgent medical attention. Contact us immediately, or attend A&E if we are not reachable. This is not a routine cosmetic concern and should not wait for a scheduled appointment.

What to Expect

1

Consultation

A thorough assessment of the area, including what was previously used where this is known, to plan a safe and appropriate dissolving approach.

2

Treatment

Hyalase is injected directly into the treatment area. Most patients describe mild discomfort, similar to the original filler injection.

3

Resolution

Initial effects are often visible within 24 to 48 hours, with full dissolving and tissue settling over one to two weeks. A follow-up review confirms the result.

A note on timing. Some patients require more than one Hyalase session to fully dissolve a larger volume of filler, particularly where filler has been layered over multiple previous treatments. Dr Philippe or Dr Jihyun Byun will advise honestly on what to expect for your specific case at consultation, rather than promising single-session resolution where that isn't realistic.
“Knowing how to dissolve filler safely is as much a part of injectable medicine as knowing how to place it. We treat both with the same level of care.” Dr Philippe Hamida-Pisal

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Hyalase painful?
Most patients find it comparable to the original filler injection — a brief, manageable discomfort. A topical numbing cream can be used if needed.
Will my face go back to how it looked before filler?
In most cases, yes, once the filler has fully dissolved and any temporary swelling has settled. Hyalase removes the filler itself; it does not remove your own natural tissue.
I had my filler done somewhere else — can you still help?
Yes. We regularly see patients seeking correction or dissolving of filler placed at other clinics. A full consultation lets us assess the area safely before treating.
Are there any risks?
Hyalase is generally very well tolerated. As with any injectable, mild swelling, bruising, or redness at the injection site is possible. A small number of people have an allergy to hyaluronidase, which is why a full medical history is taken before treatment.
Can I have new filler straight after?
We generally recommend allowing the area to settle fully before any further filler treatment, so results can be planned accurately. Dr Philippe or Dr Jihyun Byun will advise on the right timeframe for you.
